Queue must be having a laugh – Kirky’s cut off!

FUMING drivers are queuing up to blast the council over fresh road chaos in and around Kirkintilloch.

Motorists are demanding to know why road chiefs sanctioned major works at either end of Kirkintilloch town centre at the SAME time.

Glasgow Road near Rob Roy FC’s Adamslie Park ground and also Gallowhill Road in Lenzie have been choked with traffic.

After enduring months of roadworks associated with the link road, locals had hoped they had seen the last of the major gridlock.

However, it is back with a vengeance according to fed-up locals.

Gallowhill Road was completely closed both this week and last, causing huge disruption to local residents and businesses.

Temporary traffic lights on Glasgow Road has seen queues of vehicles stretching back as far as the Torrance roundabout in Bishopbriggs at one end and Kirkintilloch town centre at the other.

One motorist, who contacted the Herald, said: “If work needs done on a road then that’s fine, but to have every entry and exit to north Glasgow apart from the link road either closed or severely clogged-up just isn’t on.

chaos

“It’s been chaos and so frustrating.”

Jim Carden, from Bankview Drive in Hayston said: “Vehicles are just going to go round Kirkintilloch in the future – it’ll turn into even more of a ghost town.”

One shopkeeper claims he has lost more than half of his business due to the disruption.

Satpal Loi of Shopsmart Convenience Store in Gallowhill Road, Lenzie, says the decision to totally close the road for repairs has seen sales plummet.

Keith Scrimgeour, roads and neighbourhood services manager at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “The council aims to minimise disription wherever possible and these works are being carried out at the current time as there is generally much less traffic on the roads during the school holiday period.”
