Recycling facility closed during improvement work in Kirkintilloch town centre

WORK to improve a car park and create a new public space in Kirkintilloch will mean a recycling facility will be closed.

From next Monday, February 4, the recycling facility at Barleybank, in Kirkintilloch, will close to allow the redesign of the car park and developments in the town centre.

Residents can use alternative facilities at Tyrewise car park, Sainsburys or Kirkintilloch Community Hub.

Meanwhile, in Auchinairn, to improve vehicle access, the recycling centre will move from Auchinairn Bowling Club to Scotmid, on Auchinairn Road.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development and infrastructure at the council, said: “People in East Dunbartonshire are very active when it comes to recycling and the council aims to ensure facilities are conveniently located for the majority of residents.

“The improved access at the relocated Auchinairn recycling centre should hopefully encourage even more residents to recycle waste materials.”

He continued: “Whilst apologising for the inconvenience the closure of the Barleybank facilities might cause, the recycling centres at Tyrewise car park and at Sainsburys, in Kirkintilloch, are close at hand and I would urge residents to take advantage of these alternative sites and continue to recycle their waste.”
