Residents back outdoor hub plans
Residents have backed ambitious plans to create a mountain bike trail and outdoor centre in a village forest.
The Rebound charity says 96 per cent of residents who took part in its first public consultation exercise were in favour of plans to create the Lennox Forest Outdoor Centre in Lennoxtown.
The development, which is expected to cost over £1million, will include a mountain bike trail, cafe, shop and nature area.
It’s expected to attract up to 100,000 cyclists a year.
Residents taking part in the consultation said they hoped the project would create more jobs, boost the economy, protect the natural environment and increase the number of activities available for families in the area.
Those who were against the plans raised concerns that they would disturb wildlife, waste money and not increase tourism.
Susan Murray, treasurer of Rebound, said: “We’re delighted with the response.
“This project has the potential to be hugely beneficial for East Dunbartonshire.
“We hope it will promote economic activity, create jobs and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area by giving people something to do.”
