Residents call on housing association to begin project to upgrade their homes

CONCERNED residents say they are being kept in the dark about when work on a multi-million pound project to upgrade their homes will begin.

Sighthill Community Council says Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) has allocated around £6.4million to refurbish 3-5 and 31-35 Pinkston Drive.

The work is part of a three year refurbishment programme which will include the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms.

However, despite GHA confirming it was in the process of appointing a contractor for the project in April, the community council says residents have still not been told when work will begin.

Residents began their fight to get the blocks upgraded 10 years ago.

Elaine Ellis, secretary of the community council, said: “People are getting a bit frustrated.

“We’re delighted that £3.2million has been allocated to each building, however, people need to see the work starting.

“That’s going to be the defining moment when all the doubt of the past 10 years is taken away from peoples’ minds.”
