Residents hit out at plans to tackle problem junction

CONTROVERSIAL plans to tackle problems with ‘faulty railings’ at a busy junction will go ahead, despite strong opposition from residents.

Locals have been campaigning for two years to get the railing at the junction of Pentland Drive and Wester Cleddens Road, in Bishopbriggs replaced.

Drivers say the railings currently in place at the junction block sight lines and prevent motorists from seeing oncoming traffic.

In a bid to improve the situation East Dunbartonshire Council plans to move a junction box and reposition railings outside nearby Bishopbriggs Academy.

However, campaigners say the work will not tackle the problem.

Cleddens Park Residents’ Association is now trying to raise funds for an independent assessment of the junction.

Association chairman Dominic Notarangelo said: “An assessment is the only way we are going to get this done properly.

“The railings are not appropriate for the junction, they should never have been permitted.”
