A PUBLIC right of way is still open despite a Kirkintilloch street being closed until October as part of an ongoing housing development.

Calfmuir Road is shut between the south-west kerbline of Market Road and the centre of the railway bridge over the Glasgow-Edinburgh line.

John Stewart, who lives in the area, wants people to know that the right of way, from Calfmuir Road towards the Woodilee cottages, is still open.

He said: “It’s a popular route. This is a Walkers are Welcome Town, but people think the right of way is closed. However, it’s still accessible.”

East Dunbartonshire Council’s head of roads and neighbourhood services David Devine said: “As part of the ongoing Woodilee housing development, road construction works will be carried out by the contractor to upgrade a section of Calfmuir Road, Kirkintilloch.

“These works will also include utility diversions and muck-shifting operations and are due to be completed on Sunday, October 13, 2013.

“Diversion routes will be Tweeted and signposted throughout this period.” (K30065a)
