Roadshows being held on new refuse collections

FIND out more about a radical bins shake-up during a series of roadshows kicking-off this week.

From May 6, households will have four bins and a food waste ‘caddy’.

The council has sent out information about the new plans to residents. A series of roadshows kick-off across the district this week.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the development and infrastructure committee said: “We have started the process of directly advising households of the changes that are being made to our services.

“The letter now being distributed includes detail on the introduction of food waste collections and replacing our unpopular recycling boxes with slimline recycling wheelie bins for our new alternate weekly collections for recycling and general waste service.”

The letter also provides details of when the new recycling wheelie bins and food waste caddies will be distributed and includes responses to frequently asked questions residents may have.

Councillor Moir added: “The information to residents also includes details of a comprehensive programme of roadshows to be held throughout East Dunbartonshire, where people are encouraged to come along, and meet the waste and recycling team, get waste and recycling advice, see the new bins and caddies they will receive, and have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.”

The refuse collection shake-up is geared towards meeting the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Scotland Regulations and will also save East Dunbartonshire Council cash.

There will also be a five-litre food bin designed to be kept in the kitchen and emptied into the bigger caddy.

Food waste will be collected weekly, with all other refuse uplifted every fortnight.

The roadshows for February are this Sunday (February 24) at Sainsbury’s in Kirkintilloch from 10am-4pm; Tuesday 26 in Torrance at the lay-by at the Memorial from 10am-12pm, and Thursday 28 at Lennoxtown Co-op car park from 2pm-4pm.
