Final preparations are underway this week for what promises to be a fun-tastic holiday weeked festival for all the family.
The fun-packed two day Mayfest is a first for Lenzie Rugby Club and will take place on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday the 25th at the club’s Viewfield ground. It’s hoped it will become an annual community event.
Supported by Glasgow’s branch of CAMRA, Lenzie Rugby Club’s mini section and sponsor Nonna’s Kitchen, there will be two days of exciting rugby, food, music and real ale. And to help make the event a success and add to the entertainment, musicians are being invited along to perform.
Meanwhile, a new addition to the line-up will be the Mayfest boules competition, with local bowling club’s invited to take part and send along a team.
The Saturday line-up includes a game between the Lenzie President’s XV and The Co-Optimists XV. The Co-optimists were formed in 1924 and over the years the side has regularly featured many rugby internationalists.
Lenzie captain Daniel Scouller said: “We are excited to be playing against a strong Co Optimists team.
“The players have been chosen from Scotland’s premier division teams and it will be a true test of how far Lenzie have come this season.”
There will also be a beer festival featuring real ales from some of Scotland’s finest breweries, and a hog roast by Nonna’s Kitchen.
Live music will be provided by John Coletta, who will be playing on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Local musicians can play along or do their own set.
On the Sunday, Lenzie mini rugby section (over 100 players) will take part in a demonstration TAG Rugby Tournament. There will also be a barbecue, French Boule competition and live music in the evening.
Organisers would like to invite local musicians along to the music sessions to perform and those interested in forming a house band can e-mail email@example.com
Club president Colin Stewart said: “Lenzie Rugby Club would like to thank all who have helped in the organisation and promotion of our inaugural Mayfest celebration.
“The volunteers, shopkeepers, sponsors and media have already made a huge contribution and demonstrated what a fantastic sense of community exists in the area when a request for assistance is made.
“We look forward to seeing you there and making it a weekend to remember.”
