Sail of the century - loch up for grabs

A BEAUTY spot on the outskirts of an East Dunbartonshire village is to be put up for sale on the open market.

Antermony Loch, in Milton of Campsie, is owned by East Dunbartonshire Council.

The council said that due to the interest in the sale of the loch, it will now be advertised on the open market.

The move could be a blow to Caurnie Angling Club and Campsie Outdoors who both want to purchase it.

The council had asked the not-for-profit Caurnie Angling Club, which has leased the loch since 1943, if they wanted to buy it.

Campsie Outdoors, which has lodges, a visitor centre and a shop behind the loch, say they had talks with the council back in 1997 about possibly managing it.

The future of the loch has sparked a barrage of letters to the Herald in recent weeks.

Grace Irvine, head of assets and property assets at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “Due to interest in the sale of Antermony Loch from a number of parties, it will be advertised on the open market.

“A report, outlining the response to the marketing exercise, will be brought back before councillors at the next appropriate committee.”
