Save our centre from the axe!
A BID to stop the bulldozers moving in on a 'new' sports hall have won support.
A campaign group was launched by Bishopbriggs residents to save the 800,000 sports hall in the grounds of Bishopbriggs Academy.
Muse Developments had proposed to knock it down as part of
a masterplan to regenerate Bishopbriggs town centre.
But following opposition to the plans, the developers asked the campaign group to come up with a business plan to run the sports hall, which was built just seven years ago.
Now, locals have said they will use the facility if it can be saved.
Campaign co-ordinator Ruth Box said: "We have been approached by three sports groups so far about taking lets in the evenings.
"We are really pleased with the response. The more we can build a solid case showing the demand for the facility the better.
"That is the key thing the developers are looking for.
"However, we also have to demonstrate the facility will be used during the day, so we are looking for individuals and groups to come forward if they are interested."
The group has submitted a first draft of its business plan to Muse Developments.
Residents or groups who would be interested in using the sports hall in the future can contact Ruth Box on 0141 772 4283 or email admin@woodhillevangelical.org.uk
