School birthday celebrations

LENZIE Academy is celebrating its 125th birthday and a ceilidh is being held to mark the special occasion.

Pupils, parents and staff - past and present - are being invited to get their dancing shoes on for the event on Friday, October 7.

The local community and businesses are also invited along.

Friends of Lenzie Academy (FOLA) 125 - a group made up of parents, former pupils and school staff - is organising the ceilidh.

Jill Bladen, from FOLA, said: “We formed in February last year to raise some money for the school.

“When we realised that it was going to be the 125th anniversary this year we decided to organise the ceilidh.

“We’re looking for anyone with memorabilia for an anniversary exhibition to get in touch, and also anyone who can donate raffle prizes, provide sponsorship or make a donation to the event.”

Tickets are £20 each, including a three course meal.

They are available from the school (0141 955 2379) or from The Cup & Saucer, Townhead, Kirkintilloch.
