Seeing red over Blue Badges in East Dunbartonshire
Blue Disabled Badge
A BID is being made to beef up powers allowing the authorities to crack down on chancers who mis-use the Blue Badge system.
Strathkelvin and Bearsden MSP Fiona McLeod MSP is backing the proposed Disabled Persons’ Parking Badges (Scotland) Bill, which is currently at the first consultation stage.
It includes new powers to cancel and confiscate badges in certain circumstances, and to provide an appeals process for applicants when their Blue Badge application is refused on eligibility grounds.
Ms McLeod said: “I would also encourage badge users to respond to the consultation and share their experiences.
“Too often I hear of people abusing the system and preventing those who really need the scheme to be able to use it effectively.
“For many users, the Blue Badge contributes greatly towards their enjoying a better quality of life, allowing them to get out and about without the worry of finding a suitable parking space close to their destination or expense of using other forms of transport.
“The scheme is a lifeline for thousands of disabled people in Scotland and this consultation will hopefully go some way in helping to ensure that those who need a Blue Badge can secure one.’
