Shake-up could be in the post for mail workers in Bishopbriggs

ROYAL Mail delivery operations in Bishopbriggs could be on the move to Kirkintilloch.

The company is reviewing the Bishopbriggs delivery office at Cross Court and is exploring moving the operation to Kirkintilloch delivery office in Campsie Road.

The Herald recently reported on similar plans to move Kilsyth operations to Kirkintilloch.

If the Bishopbriggs move goes ahead, Royal Mail said it does not anticipate there will be any job losses.

However, one concerned resident said: “The Kirkintilloch office is not near a bus drop off.

“It costs £5 return to travel to Kirkintilloch from Bishopbriggs per day (I know as I do it every day).

“Elderly people would find this difficult, especially if they do not have their own transport. It would be all but impossible in winter.”

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “We are currently undertaking a review looking at whether we could relocate our operation in Bishopbriggs to Kirkintilloch delivery office.

“This is part of the overall programme of transforming and modernising our delivery operations. No decision has been made to relocate Bishopbriggs delivery office.

“This decision will depend on our scoping study, as well as discussions with our people and the Communication Workers Union (CWU), Unite/CMA. We expect to be in a position to reach a decision later this year and we will communicate this to our people and elected representatives.”

Faced with declining letter volumes and increasing parcel volumes, Royal Mail say they must constantly review how delivery operations are managed.

The spokesperson added: “If we decide to relocate Bishopbriggs delivery office, we will make every effort to minimise any disruption in the service we provide to customers as any changes are implemented.”
