A kindhearted Bearsden dog lover is overjoyed to be reunited with the Spanish water dog she rescued from Spain , that went missing for nine days.

Sheena Murtagh became involved with ADANA - a Spanish dog rescue charity based on the Costa del Sol - when she lived there, and decided to re home Bailey after the organisation put out an appeal to find a new owner for her.

However, a couple of hours after Bailey had arrived at Sheena’s home last week, she ran out of the door and was on the run for nine days, eventually turning up in Scotstoun, about four miles away.

Sheena, who is a full time carer for her son Paul, said: “It was a bit of sheer luck that she was found by the SSPCA. I had been in contact with them twice a day and Bailey was spotted by one of their routine patrols.”

Bailey is a two-year-old Spanish water dog that had been badly abused there and arrived in Glasgow on Saturday, June 28, for a new and happy life. She was in a terrible state and very timid and disoriented but ate a huge meal of chicken and biscuits within half an hour of arriving and lay down to sleep behind the sofa.

Sheena added: “But within the hour she had opened a door and bolted like grease lightning. She was last sighted in the Spey Road area of Bearsden.”

The former PR executive, who spent 20 year in the Middle East, said: “I burst into tears when I hear she had been found. I was even crying when I got to Cardonald animal rescue centre.”

Sheena said: “ I would like to thank everyone for their support. I was overwhelmed by the messages that I received. I had contacted refuges in Cardonald and Milton, and Police Scotland three times a day to see if she has been handed in and is so good that all the leg work has paid off.”

ADANA has been rescuing dogs for the past 25 years and finds new owners for abandoned pets from across Europe.

Sheena is keen to help ADANA and anyone who feels they could adopt a dog should contact Sheena on 07801494806.
