Sleek new school and cultural centre looks different class
First Day for Pupils ( Opening ) of New Chryston High School. Head Teacher Linda Johnston with Pupils - 20th Aug 2012.
A £22million school and community centre opened its doors this week – ushering in a new era for the area.
Chryston High School and Cultural Centre is now open for business.
A fabulous glass and zinc-clad building with a landscaped street effect heralds the entrances to the new school and cultural centre.
The school sports facilities boast a four-court games hall, a fitness studio and a full-size, all-weather pitch which will be provided in the next phase, once the old school building has been demolished.
As well as classrooms and offices, the new campus includes training rooms for construction trades and hair and beauty courses.
There will be a recording studio in the music department while the art and design section will include a kiln room.
The Chryston Cultural Centre will replace the local library and Muirhead Community Hall.
It will have a separate entrance and be open during the day and in the evenings in the same way as the existing facilities.
Head teacher Linda Johnstone said: “‘Our new building is wonderful and we are all so pleased. It’s a stunning home for Chryston High and most certainly heralds an exciting new era in our rich history.”
She paid tribute to staff for their sterling efforts in getting everything ready for the start of session, adding: “They worked their socks off unpacking boxes and quickly organising teaching areas to ensure we hit the ground running and made as smooth a start as possible.
“Even at this early stage, it has been clear the new school has lifted everyone’s spirits.
“I have already sensed the deep pride staff and pupils are feeling as they familiarise themselves with the building and all of our wonderful resources. It’s been a fantastic and well-deserved boost for everyone.”
In May, former pupils and teachers, were invited back to have one last look at their old school.
