Lenzie Rugby Club is holding the Mayfest weekend.

A bank holiday festival of sport, food, music and drink is being held for the first time next month by Lenzie Rugby Club.

The fun-packed two day Mayfest will take place on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday 25 at the club’s Viewfield ground, and it’s hoped it will become an annual community event .

Supported by Glasgow’s branch of CAMRA and Lenzie Rugby Club’s mini section sponsor, Nonna’s Kitchen, there will be two days of exciting representative rugby, food, music and real ale.

The Saturday line-up includes a game between Lenzie Presidents XV against The Co-Optimists XV, a beer festival featuring real ales from some of Scotland’s finest breweries, a hog roast by Nonna’s Kitchen, and live music throughout the evening.

On the Sunday, Lenzie mini rugby section (over 100 players) will take part in a demonstration TAG Rugby Tournament. There will also be a barbecue, French Boule competition and live music in the evening.

Colin Stewart, Lenzie Rugby Football Club president, said: “The club follows a code of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship that stretches back to its origins and, in the spirit of community, the club is organising and hosting its first Mayfest.

“It is destined to become an annual event marking the end of the rugby season and the beginning of the summer for the local community.

“We are very excited about it and look forward to developing it in the coming years.”

Organisers would like to invite local musicians along to the music sessions to perform and those interested in forming a house band can email lenzierugby@gmail.com
