Stroke charity says thank you to volunteers

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is saying a big “thank you” to all its volunteers locally during Volunteers Week (June 1-7).

The charity will recognise the enormous contribution of its volunteers by presenting ‘Thank you’ mugs at special tea parties to all members of the volunteer teams across Scotland.

Volunteers in the west of Scotland give the charity more than 21,000 hours of their time each year to support community services and raise funds, taking on a variety of roles including drivers, stroke communication partners, befrienders, fundraisers, office based as well as charity shop volunteers.

The local services are run by CHSS staff with the help of trained volunteers.

Jayne McKerrow, regional manager for Glasgow, said: “Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s volunteers are a very special band of people. We really appreciate all their hard work and the contribution they have made to the charity’s success - we couldn’t do it without them!

“Volunteering is all about giving and CHSS would like to give our volunteers something back. We hope the “Thank You” mugs give our volunteers the chance to remind themselves why they volunteer for CHSS, to give them time to chat over a cuppa with other volunteers, while making new friends and helping others, whether they are volunteering within our services or our shops.

“We’re always looking for more volunteers to join our friendly team. It’s rewarding as well as interesting and fun, and as a volunteer, you have the power to change lives. What’s more you can be sure of being valued and appreciated since CHSS holds the prestigious ‘Investing in Volunteers’ award in recognition of the high quality of our volunteer programme.”

CHSS’s stores in Dumbarton Road and Clarkston Road are also thanking their volunteers and will host a celebration tea party throughout the week.
