Plans have been unveiled to build a new supermarket on a derelict site in Kirkintilloch, which could create up to 300 jobs.
Colliers International, on behalf of Tame Construction, has lodged a Planning Application Notice (PAN) with East Dunbartonshire Council for the development at Woodilee Industrial Estate.
If planning permission is granted, a store of around 45,000 sq ft would be built, employing between 250 and 300 people.
Anthony Aitken, head of planning at Colliers International, said: “Although the tenant is yet to be confirmed, the site would lend itself well to a food supermarket giving local people more choice, and would be a very attractive addition to southern Kirkintilloch, bringing hundreds of jobs to the area.”
“Council figures suggest 17.8 per of expenditure on food is spent outside East Dunbartonshire, which is equivalent to around £11.5m of household food shopping spent outside of the area.
“A new supermarket in the area provides the opportunity to retain some of that expenditure.”
