Time to clean up the community, say local heroes

A CARING army of volunteers and Scouts took matters into their own hands – and litter for that matter – as part of a clean-up crusade in Milton of Campsie.

They decided to remove papers, cans and bottles from the Kirkintilloch to Strathblane walkway, where it runs through the village.

Members of the congregation of Milton of Campsie Parish Church joined forces with members of the 16th Glasgow (1st Milton of Campsie) Scouts for the event.

A spokesperson said: “The Scouts were working towards their Community Activity Badge and the church congregation were continuing their work on the theme of stewardship.

“Luckily it was a beautiful day following a very wet Friday and a great many bags were filled with rubbish found along the way.”

The group had registered with Keep Scotland Beautiful and were supported with a supply of litter picks and rubbish bags from East Dunbartonshire Council.

Meanwhile, more than 2,000 people have been recruited to join clean-ups across Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and beyond.

Over 20 events are planned in East Dunbartonshire as part of a two-month attack on litter by Keep Scotland Beautiful – the National Spring Clean.

The aim is for businesses, schools, community groups and individuals to unite together in a common cause.

Keep Scotland Beautiful is calling out to everyone who hates litter and would like to do something positive to improve their corner of the community.
