Time to get tough on noisy neighbours say fed-up villagers

THREATS, intimidation, harassment and damage to homes – just some of the issues being faced by residents in a village who claim they are near breaking point.
Families living in Eastwood Road, in Moodiesburn, say more needs to be done to tackle the problem.
One concerned tenant, who asked not to be named, said: “The community is sick and tired of the housing office doing nothing about this ongoing problem.
“The situation is getting worse, because people think they can get away with it.
“Someone is going to get seriously injured or worse if something is not done.
“We just want the council to take action against the people who are causing the problem.”
Strathkelvin SNP councillor Frances McGlinchey has received a number of calls about the problem.
She said: “I would urge people to phone the police when there are problems with anti-social behaviour rather than try to sort things themselves.
“They should also bring it to the attention of the local authority.”
Bob Brownlie, area housing manager with the council, said: “We are working closely with the police in dealing with a number of anti-social issues in and around the Moodiesburn area.
“We take very seriously all anti-social complaints, both in investigating and in resolving them through a range of measures, including intervention and mediation in partnership with Strathclyde Police and social work services.”
Police Inspector John Ferguson said: “There have been several incidents reported to police in Eastwood Road, Moodiesburn, in the last couple of weeks.
“Four people were arrested and will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
“The police liaise regularly with North Lanarkshire Council regarding anti-social behaviour.
“Working together we can deal with not only criminal acts, but other behaviour such as litter, noise and quality of life issues that disrupt the community.
“Don’t suffer in silence, report any problems to the police or North Lanarkshire Council’s anti-social behaviour task force, or your housing provider.”
