Top of the tots – Kiera wins Herald contest

THE votes have been counted and, after months of waiting, the Herald can finally reveal its Bonny Baby 2011 competition winners.

Almost 2,000 votes were cast in this year’s contest to find the bonniest baby in Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs, Springburn and North Lanarkshire and we can now reveal the overall winner is 14-month-old Kiera Bamford, from Kirkintilloch.

Kiera also topped the 0-17 month category and her parents, Lyndsay Malcolm and John Bamford, are delighted.

Lyndsay said: “It’s brilliant. I thought she might win as we had a lot of support. I’m looking forward to being able to tell her about it and showing her the paper when she grows up.”

In the 18-35 months category, two-year-old Leah Mitchell, from Lennoxtown, took the top spot, while in the three-five age group the winner was Brooke Kelly (3), also from Lennoxtown.

Michelle Henry, Leah’s mum, said: “I’m pleased she’s done so well. I only got her picture taken because I was putting her wee sister (Ava) in the competition, so it’s a bit of a surprise.”

Kimberly Kelly, Brooke’s mum, said: “I’m so pleased. There were a lot of lovely kids in the competition so it’s a surprise.”

The winners will receive their awards at a special ceremony in the Oregano Restaurant, in Bishopbriggs, next month.
