Town centre plans under the spotlight
CONCERNED residents have called a public meeting to discuss controversial plans for a multi-million pound revamp of Bishopbriggs town centre.
The talks have been organised by Wester Cleddens Residents' Group, which recently formed amid concerns over the proposed development.
Last month, an outline masterplan from Muse Developments was approved by the council's planning board.
The plans include a new Morrisons supermarket, new housing, a care home, potential offices/community facilities and a new car park.
Proposals to demolish and relocate St Matthew's Parish Church are also part of the development.
However, Wester Cleddens Residents' Group members say the plans will bring increased traffic to already busy roads, have a serious impact on local retailers and change the 'village' feel of the centre of Bishopbriggs.
Anne Gillies, a spokesperson for the group, said: "We want people from all over Bishopbriggs to come to the meeting as these plans are going to affect everyone.
"We are not happy with the decision to give this the go-ahead and feel we haven't been listened to.
"It will rip the heart out of Bishopbriggs.
"We will see what response we get from the meeting and take it from there."
The meeting will take place on Monday, December 14, at 7pm in the Leven Room of Woodhill Evangelical Church, Wester Cleddens Road, Bishopbriggs.
