Traffic-light louts leave residents seeing red

POLICE are ready to slam the brakes on drivers who jump red lights on a busy road.

Chryston Community Council has been assured officers will continue to watch Station Road after calls for action to stop drivers going through the lights against traffic and the pedestrian crossing.

The community council insists, despite Cumbernauld police beginning to monitor traffic nearly two months ago, that things have not improved.

A spokesperson for the community council said: "The situation is still as bad as ever. The drivers see the amber light and belt through.

"They're running through the red lights and I keep thinking are you colour blind?

"Something needs to be done before there is a serious accident.

"This is a step in the right direction. I am hoping it will improve things and have some sort of effect."

Constable Kay Elliot, community safety, said: "Local officers have been monitoring the situation and on the occasions they have attended no offences have been detected."

However, monitoring will continue.
