Traffic warning – Kirkintilloch bridge closed for more than three months

WORK to refurbish Eastside Bridge in Kirkintilloch will kick off on Monday, January 23, for 14 weeks.

Eastside Road will be closed from 6am on Monday until 6pm on Sunday, April 29.

Road closure will be required from approximately 10m from either side of the bridge.

Pedestrian access will be available during the construction works.

Access to businesses will be open at all times.

A diversion will be in place and drivers will be able to use A803 Kilsyth Road as alternative route.

East Dunbartonshire Council development and infrastructure councillor Billy Hendry said: “Eastside Bridge, also known as Luggie Bridge, dates back to the 18th century and is category B listed and protected by Historic Scotland.

“The council’s current programme of works is aimed at strengthening the existing footways to allow the current footway protection barriers to be removed to allow the Victorian ornamental railing to be visible again to ensure the character of the bridge remains intact.”
