Tribute to popular local doctor
A NEW plaque has been unveiled in Auchinairn in memory of a well-respected GP.
May Shearer applied to the Community Funding Project in East Dunbartonshire for a grant to replace the previous plaque in James Dunlop Gardens.
The street was named after Dr Dunlop 23 years ago by the children of Auchinairn Primary.
Dr Dunlop started his own medical practice in Auchinairn in 1948, after working at Stobhill Hospital. He died in 1986.
May said: "I was very pleased to get the funding for the plaque. Dr Dunlop was very well-known, loved and respected."
She added: "I don't think people like Dr Dunlop should be forgotten.
"Given the impact he had on the community, it is important to remember who he was."
Auchinairn Primary head teacher Gary Graham and pupils are pictured with May and colleague May Lickrish unveiling the new plaque (K01162).
