Two new centres on the way to replace facility shut to save cash
PLANS have been unveiled to create two new centres to replace a facility for people with learning difficulties.
East Dunbartonshire Council announced the closure of Kelvinbank Resource Centre, in Kirkintilloch, earlier this year as part of cost-cutting measures.
The day care centre aims to improve the quality of life of its users and help them live their lives as valued members of the community.
But, following a question by Bishopbriggs North and Torrance councillor Anne McNair, the council’s director of community services sought to assure residents that a replacement service would be provided.
John Simmons said: “To replace the Kelvinbank Centre, the council is investing £2million, which will be phased in from 2015 to build two separate centres, one at either end of the authority.
“Exact timescales for full construction have yet to be agreed.”
