Walkers hit out at road closure in Kirky
THE closure of a road for around 10 months is causing problems for walkers.
Calfmuir Road is shut between Market Road and the the railway bridge over the main Glasgow to Edinburgh line until October, as part of the ongoing Woodilee housing development.
But one frustrated walker said: “My wife and I went our usual walk along Calfmuir Road, heading from our home in Moodiesburn, towards Kirkintilloch.
“We were astounded and angry when we reached the bridge over the railway line to find the road was completely fenced off at the bridge and there was no way for a pedestrian to get through.
“The metal fence panels were all securely bolted together.
“We had to cut our walk short at this point and return home.
“There is no reason why the road over the bridge has to be closed to walkers.
“Which part of ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ do they not understand?
East Dunbartonshire Council’s roads and neighbourhood services manager, Keith Scrimgeour, said: “There are a number of safety issues which pose a risk to motorists and pedestrians alike and as a result the road is completely closed to the north of the bridge.
“As soon as it is deemed safe for pedestrians to pass this route, access will be granted, but until such times the road will remain closed.”
