Water charges will rise in East Dunbartonshire
WATER charges are set to rise for the first time in four years – with householders being hit in the pocket from April this year.
Scottish Water have announced that the charges for 2.4million households across Scotland will go up by 2.8 per cent, bringing the average bill to around £334.
The amount individual households pay is dependent upon the house band – with the charges automatically included in the annual council tax bill being delivered in the coming weeks.
The under-inflation rise has been agreed with economic regulator, the Water Industry Commission for Scotland.
Interim chief executive Douglas Millican said: “Our customers are benefiting from Scottish Water’s continuing strong financial performance and its focus on delivering further efficiencies. That is why we have been able to restrict this price rise to only 2.8 per cent – delivering benefits to our customers.
“Our customers are continuing to see value in the charges they pay and improved service. The quality of our drinking water is the best it has ever been, we are continuing to improve the natural environment across Scotland, cutting water leaking from our pipes, and customer service is continuing to improve.
“We believe these charges are a fair deal for our customers in these challenging economic conditions.”
Water charges for 2013/14 by council tax band will be as follows: Band A: £269.64; Band B: £314.58; Band C: £359.52; Band D: £404.46; Band E: £494.34; Band F: £584.22; Band G: £674.10; and Band H: £808.92.
