Wedding bells for man who survived lightning strike

THERE will be a double celebration this weekend for a man who cheated death after being hit by a lightning bolt.

Campbell Gillespie (43), who is originally from Kirkintilloch, is set to marry partner Hazel Topping in Liverpool, on Sunday, in front of more than 100 guests.

After the ceremony the couple's three-month-old son, Brogan, will be christened wearing the same gown that Campbell wore when he was a baby in 1964.

Sunday's celebrations are events that Campbell thought he would never see, after he was struck by lightning in 2003 while out jogging.

Campbell suffered massive internal injuries and was told by doctors he was sterile. But against all the odds, Hazel fell pregnant and Brogan was born on Hogmanay.

Campbell (pictured) said: "Life is great. We are really excited about the wedding and Brogan is just fantastic.

"There are coach loads of guests coming down from Scotland, it will be a great day."

After loosing his sense of smell and taste following the accident, Campbell said he was ecstatic to recently find his sense of smell returning.

He said: "I was changing Brogan's nappy when the smell hit me all of a sudden.

"It was fantastic. I was so happy I started running around the house shouting with excitement."

The happy couple will spend their honeymoon in the Lake District.
