Weeks to go until £22m school project is complete

THE finishing touches are being put to a £22million school and cultural centre.

Pupils at Chryston High will move into a stunning new building when the school term kicks off in August.

The new facility has been built as part of North Lanarkshire Council’s £250million Schools and Centres 21 Programme.

The new school has been welocmed by Strathkelvin councillors.

Labour councillor Willie Hogg said: “I’m really looking forward to the new school opening.

“Along with the new cultural centre and sports pitch it will be fantastic for the community and will enhance educational facilities in the area.”

SNP councillor Frances McGlinchey told the Herald: “I welcome the development. We’ve needed a new school for a while and I think the facility will bring new life into the area.”

Situated close to the site of the existing high school, the new school will also include an adjoining cultural centre to replace the existing local library and Muirhead Public Hall.

Once the work is complete, the old school building will be demolished to allow for a full size synthetic pitch to be constructed in time for April next year. The new school has 23 classrooms and 27 practical rooms, including two vocational skills training rooms for construction trades and hair and beauty courses.

The adjoining cultural centre will have a separate entrance and will operate completely separately from the school as a stand alone community facility.
