What’s in a name? Will new development cause confusion?

BAFFLED locals have been left scratching their head as a luxury new housing development has been advertised with the same name as an existing area.

Dawn Homes have named their new scheme at Westermains, in Kirkintilloch – Willowbank.

However, there is already an area known as Willowbank in Townhead, Kirkintilloch.

Kath Monroe, from Lenzie, contacted the Herald after realising the similarities between the names.

She said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the advert in the Kirkintilloch Herald for the new development at Willowbank, Westermains, Kirkintilloch.

“This must surely have the potential for a lot of confusion, having another area named Willowbank in a town the size of Kirkintilloch.

“Were the developers not told by the council, or the Post Office, that we already have a street called Willow Bank and Willowbank Gardens in Townhead and that this area is known locally as Willowbank?”

Martin R Egan, managing director of The Dawn Group, said: “The name Willowbank is purely for sales and marketing purposes only.

“Actual postal addresses and street names will be issued by East Dunbartonshire Council after agreement with Royal Mail over postcodes etc.

“As there will be no Dawn properties with a postal address of Willowbank, we do not feel that any confusion should arise.”
