What’s in store for council’s former HQ?

THE future of East Dunbartonshire Council’s former headquarters was on the agenda during private discussions at a council meeting.

The talks during the development and infrastructure committee were centred around the proposed terms and conditions relating to the sale of Tom Johnston House, in Kirkintilloch.

The council said it could not give further details about the discussions as the matter will now go before the next full council meeting, on March 5, for consideration.

The local authority relocated its HQ to Southbank Marina in August last year, in a move that is expected to save around £350,000 a year.

In the past, rumours have circulated that Tom Johnston House could be sold off to a major supermarket. However, this has previously been quashed by the council.

Meanwhile, plans for the Lennoxtown Community Hub were also discussed in private.

It’s proposed the hub will be at 91 Main Street. It’s scheduled to open in 2014 and will provide a range of council services.

The Kirkintilloch Community Hub opened last year in the William Patrick Library building.

A Bishopbriggs Community Hub is expected to open during 2014/15.

Councillors also talked about the purchase of ground to the west of the Park Burn in Southbank, Kirkintilloch.It has not been revealed what the land would be used for.
