Where do you want us to start chopping, asks cash-strapped council
TELL us your priorities - that’s the message from council chiefs in East Dunbartonshire as they launch this year’s bid to establish what services can be trimmed back.
A series of stakeholder workshops and drop-in sessions for the public are being held later this month.
The aim is to find out the best use for the cash-strapped council’s budget.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie told the Herald: “We have undertaken comprehensive consultation over the last two years across our stakeholder groups and our residents.
“This has enabled us to ensure our priorities meet the needs and expectations of the people of East Dunbartonshire, whilst delivering a balanced budget in challenging economic circumstances.
“It is important that everyone has an opportunity to have a say on what they feel our priorities should be.
“In the past we have done this through a household survey and this year we are encouraging people to come along to one of the drop-in sessions.”
Drop-in events will be held from 10am-4.30pm at the following venues – open to all:
* Wednesday, October 17 – Bishopbriggs Library
* Wednesday, October 24 – Campsie Memorial Hall, Lennoxtown
* Thursday, October 25 – Kirkintilloch Community Hub
Council officers will be on hand to talk to those who visit the drop-in sessions and people can complete a priorities questionnaire.
Councillor Geekie said: “We want to know what they feel are the biggest priorities in their local areas in the coming years and how they want to see local services delivered.”
The questionnaire will also be available online at the council’s website – www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk – and in hard copy at the council’s headquarters, libraries and leisure centres.
Invitations to the stakeholder workshops, which will take place between October 21 and November 1, have been sent to representative organisations and community groups throughout the area.
Councillor Geekie added: “This year’s consultation builds on the detailed East Dunbartonshire-wide information we have gathered in recent years and will enable residents to discuss their local area priorities, helping us to target services in the coming years.”
