Will parents boycott school survey?

SCHOOlS have already been earmarked for closure and the consultation plan is a sham.

That's the view of an outspoken councillor who is urging parents to BOYCOTT East Dunbartonshire Council's school survey.

Residents are being asked to have their say on the district's primary, nursery and special schools.

Every home in East Dunbartonshire will receive a questionnaire and letter explaining the current position.

But mums and dads have been thrown into a quandary - whether to take part or not.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie has defended the consultation exercise and MSP David Whitton has called on residents to take part.

It's claimed some schools in the district are operating at less than 60 per cent capacity.

But Campsie and Kirkintilloch North councillor Charles Kennedy says the survey is a 'sham' and wants people to boycott it.

He claims the council already knows what schools will close and has described the consultation exercise as a 'political tactic'.

And MP Jo Swinson says the consultation period is too short and does not allow enough time for people to consider the important issues.

The consultation exercise is due to finish a week on Friday, October 9.
