A DECISION on plans to convert part of a landmark building into a children’s nursery will be made after a site visit.

Asif Allaudin wants to open a nursery in The Tower, Garngaber Avenue, in Lenzie.

The ‘C’ listed building is home to Mr Allaudin and he also runs his business, Lenzie Osteopathic Clinic, at the premises.

The plans include closing existing access and the creation of a new vehicle access and parking.

It was recommended that the application be granted, subject to conditions, at last week’s planning board meeting.

However, a site visit was requested, which will take place on the day of the next planning board meeting on April 2.

A total of 13 objections were submitted against the application.

These include that the change of use from residential to commercial would have a detrimental effect on the area and set a precedent.

Concerns have also been raised in terms of parking, access, pedestrian safety and the busy junction at Garngaber Avenue and Kirkintilloch Road.

But the report before councillors said the proposed change of use to a nursery would not have an adverse impact on the C-listed property, neighbours, wider street scene or the Garngaber Avenue conservation. It also stated that the change of use would not compromise Local Plan policies and guidance.
