Workers take to picket line in latest strike action
WORRIED staff at an under threat factory downed tools during a five day strike.
Staff at Remploy in Springburn, which employs disabled workers, protested last week about the terms of transfer concerning any new buyers of the factory.
The GMB union claims the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has removed the obligation for a new employer to provide a pension and it understands that potential buyers may want to make redundancies based on the individual disability.
Those interested in buying the factory, and eight others, across the UK had until August 31 to submit bids.
The staff now want to talk with Esther McVey, who was appointed new minister for disabled in a shake-up of the Westminster cabinet last week.
