Local survey shows badly fitted car seats are risking lives

Nearly half of all children’s car seats in East Dunbartonshire are badly fitted and putting lives at risk.

Two car safety clinics organised by East Dunbartonshire Council as part of Scottish Road Safety Week found half the seats were either incorrectly fitted or were incompatible. A small number had major faults.

The majority of errors related to the seatbelt being too loose, not routed correctly or the child being too heavy for the seat.

Councillor Ashay Ghai, convener of neighbourhood services, said: “What’s particularly pleasing is that while many of these were found to be unsafe, these faults have now been fixed and children are safer on the road as a result. I wish to congratulate the team on this important work.”
