Make it snappy if you want to win

NOT so very long ago, taking watersports pictures meant investing hundreds of pounds in a cumbersome waterproof housing for your SLR camera and then praying to the deity of your choice that it wouldn't start springing leaks. Now, though, the market is - ahem - saturated with handy little waterproof snap-boxes that you can throw around as much as you like. The 14 megapixel Olympus Mju Tough 8010 is my favourite: waterproof to 10m, shockproof to 2m and freezeproof to -10C it really lives up to its name. Clever too, with dual image stabilisation and autofocus tracking to help you take razor-sharp action shots.'olympus toough 8010

BUDDING photographers are being urged to enter a new competition – and make it snappy!

The event is being organised by Cadder Parish Church’s Eco-Congregation to raise cash for their eco activities.

The categories are landscape, canal scenes, wildlife, anything to do with nature and garden pictures.

As well as prizes for the best entries, it is hoped there will also be an exhibition and a calendar featuring the photos.

There are two age-groups for entrants – 15-and-under and over-15 – and each competitor can submit up to three photographs in each category.

The entry fee is 50p per photograph.

The deadline for entries is July 31 and all pictures will be judged by an award-winning photographer.

For more information, and to get an entry form, go to www.ecocongregationscotland.blogspot.com and search for ‘Cadder Parish Church’ or contact eco-convener Billy Gilchrist on 0141 762 2607.
