A FORMER star of Campsie Black Watch and Kirkintilloch Miners football clubs has kicked off a fundraising campaign ahead of a “once-in-a-lifetime” challenge.
Bill Ewing (27) is currently undergoing a gruelling training regime to take part in the 2013 London Marathon on April 21.
He won a place at the ultra-popular race via his employer Network Rail and has decided to raise funds for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
Bill, who moved from Kirkintilloch to London in 2011, said: “I am raising money for the sick kids of Yorkhill Hospital as I once had to be treated there and have some friends with kids that had to be admitted there for treatment too. All the doctors and nurses do an amazing job.
“I’m looking forward to it as it’s a great marathon. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity whilst I’m down in London.”
The former St Ninian’s High pupil said he has “great memories” of Kirkintilloch and still has family living locally – including mum, Jean, and brother, Paul.
Bill has set a fundraising target of around £2,000.
