A CARE homeworker has been honoured.

Maureen Clements was recently awarded the Care Newcomer trophy at the Scottish Care National Awards 2011.

A former pupil of St Machan’s Primary and Turnbull High, Maureen is deputy manager at Birdston Care Home in Milton of Campsie for around 10 months.

Prior to that she had a number of jobs, including working for the police, before studying for a degree in Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2002.

Since arriving at Birdston she has worked hard to improve the lives of those who stay at the home.

She said : “I’ve tried to make changes to give the residents more activities and to get them out and about - things like lunch clubs and days out to Kirkintilloch.

“I really enjoy working with people who maybe have certain difficulties and challenges and to help them have fulfilling lives.

“It’s wonderful to be recognised with the award.”
