A POPULAR minister insisted this week he is not leaving his church.
Rumours swept the town that the Reverend Mark Johnstone was quitting his role as minister of St Mary’s Parish Church in Kirkintilloch.
But the Rev Johnstone said he will remain in his current role at the parish.
He assured: “I am not stepping down, I’m staying at St Mary’s. I’m enthusiastic about my ministry at St Mary’s and as long as God is willing I will be the minister there.”
However, the Reverend Johnstone, who became minister of St Mary’s in 2001, did confirm he has stepped down as the convener of the Church of Scotland’s Mission and Discipleship Council.
He says he left the post for personal reasons.
