TOWN centre improvement works are set to create 18 new car parking spaces by the end of the year.

The work - part of the Kirkintilloch Town Centre Masterplan - will see an area behind Tantra Night Club resurfaced, lighting installed and 14 spaces formally made open to town centre users.

An additional four parking spaces will be created and the lighting improved in the short stay parking area behind the new Kirkintilloch Community Hub and William Patrick Library.

The work is due to be completed before Christmas - weather permitting.

The project is being funded and delivered by East Dunbartonshire Council with support from the owners of Tantra Night Club, who are leasing the land to the council at no cost.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “This contribution of land by the owners of Tantra Night Club is a great benefit to the customers of the community hub and to the town centre as a whole.

“There has been a growing need for additional parking since the opening of the community hub and I am pleased that we have been able to provide these extra spaces in response to customer demand.”
