KIRKINTILLOCH Rob Roy Football Club have withdrawn plans to build a new stadium on the outskirts of the town at Birdstson.
The club will hold crunch talks with council chiefs this week to discuss the feasibility of building the state-of-the-art facility at Tottie’s Park, in Tintock, Kirkintilloch.
A four-year campaign to build a new stadium on land between Birdston Road and Campsie Road had raised concerns for the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) as it was near the River Kelvin flood plain.
Rob Roy president Jim Robertson said: “At a club meeting on Monday last week, it was agreed that the Birdston Road site option was no longer of interest and the club was to withdraw its application to develop that site.”
Project manager Colin Smith said: “The key aspect is to ensure longevity and sustainability for Rob Roy’s future facility.”
