AN AMBITIOUS chef hopes to land a £1million investment from one of Britain’s leading businessman after taking inspiration from a record-breaking football club.

Iain Murphy, from Lennoxtown, has signed up for a new BBC 3 show, provisionally entitled ‘Be Your Own Boss’.

The Hayston Golf Club chef has been challenged to make as much money as possible from an initial investment of £100 - with Innocent Drinks founder Richard Reed prepared to invest in the best ideas. Iain’s inspiration came after flicking through a recent edition of the Kirkintilloch Herald.

He said: “I was reading about Campsie Black Watch reaching their 15th Scottish Cup Final and thought it would be a good idea to do a version of the Killie Pie - and call it the Black Watch Pie.

“I’ve made one which is a plain steak pie and another which is a steak and haggis pie. They both use the finest ingredients, including the best Highland beef.”

The pies are already flying off the shelves at Hayston Golf Club and Caulders Garden Centre, with Iain hoping to quickly add further outlets.

If he’s successful, he could be one of 18 budding business people selected for the next stage of the contest - set to be broadcast later this year.
