A NEW Co-operative store could open on the site of a former petrol station in Lenzie.

The company has submitted a planning application for the former Gillespie’s garage site in Kirkintilloch Road.

A spokesperson for the Co-operative Food said: “We have been working with the developer of the site of the former petrol station on Kirkintilloch Road to transform the space into a Co-operative Food convenience store.

“We understand that the planning application will be considered by East Dunbartonshire Council in the coming weeks and hope that the necessary approvals will be granted.

“If so, we anticipate that the new store would be open by the end of the year.”

The spokesperson added: “Everyone at The Co-operative is very proud of our record of operating at the heart of local communities and this store will complement our existing store on Millersneuk Road in Lenzie.”
