THE Post Office is to launch a public consultation into a proposal to relocate the branch in Lenzie.

It’s understood Lenzie Post Office, in Kirkintilloch Road, would move to the Morning, Noon and Night store in Gallowhill Road, Kirkintilloch.

Jass Toor, who has owned Lenzie Post Office for seven years, said: “The Post Office are remodelling their business operations to new models and it’s not really suitable to run a Post Office on its own. They are depending more on the retail side as well.

“I’ve lost a lot of trade because of parking and, since the bypass opened, I have lost passing trade.

“It’s sad, but unfortunately it’s a sign of the times.”

One local resident said the move would be “a big loss to a lot of people”.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said: “We will soon be announcing a public consultation on our proposal to relocate Lenzie Post Office as part of a major modernisation programme across the network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through significantly longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

“We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Lenzie and we are confident that any change will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
