A CELEBRATED local artist is teaming up with a stonemason to deliver a lasting tribute to the victims of one of Scotland’s worst mining tragedies.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of The Cadder Pit Disaster, which saw fire claim the lives of 22 men on August 3, 1913 - leaving behind 13 widows and 40 fatherless children.

To mark the centenary East Dunbartonshire Council have asked Kirkintilloch artist Willie Rodger to design a commemorative cairn - to be built by stonemason John Ralson.

The cairn will be unveiled at a special memorial service on Sunday, August 4, in Bishopbriggs Library.
