WORKERS scored a cash boost for charity during the ‘famous’ Copa del Aviva.

Aviva Bishopbriggs organises an annual football tournament in aid of the Marie Curie Hospice at Stobhill.

Around 75 committed players – and 20 even more committed supporters – braved the near-monsoon conditions of the

Scottish summer to take part in the third Copa del Aviva at Huntershill.

Over the course of the day 10 teams competed in mini-leagues with two progressing to the final – which was eventually won by Deportivo la Catalent, featuring local workers.

Each player donated their own time and £10 to take part in the event.

With Rossvale FC kindly donating their venue free of charge and with free hospitality laid on at the nearby Rat & Parrott pub for a post-match drink, 100 per cent of the money donated will go directly to the Marie Curie hospice.

Aviva will match-fund all money raised, meaning the total for the day is expected to top the £1,500 mark.
