LET’S fight together to get a car park built next to our children’s school.
That was the plea this week from worried parents with kids at Glenmanor Primary, in Moodiesburn.
Last week the Herald revealed parents want North Lanarkshire Council and Cumbernauld Police to crack down on selfish drivers who park on pavements and zig zag lines outside the school.
Nan Graham, whose son and nieces went to the school, is urging parents to lobby councillors to get a car park built to help tackle the problem.
She wrote to councillor Willie Hogg last year about the issue after a child was nearly knocked down.
She said: “Something needs to be done and in my opinion it will take all of the parents with children at the school to lobby the council and make them see that there is a definite need for a car park.”
Strathkelvin councillor Willie Hogg said: “I’ve been pushing for this for the last two years. I have been working with the roads department on this very difficult situation and a programme has been assessed for 2012/13 to try and alleviate the problem.”
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “As has been explained on several occasions, the problem is with people parking inconsiderately on the zig zag areas and mounting the pavements.
“There is parking available in the nearby church car park and surrounding areas. Anyone wishing a copy of the travel plan should contact the school.”
