A MINUTE’S silence will be observed on Saturday as a mark of respect for a player who collapsed during a match.

Adam Bain (30), from Moodiesburn, was playing for Gartcosh United against Drumchapel FPs at Gartcosh Playing Fields last Saturday when he fell to the ground after suffering a suspected brain aneurysm.

He was given CPR until an ambulance arrived and rushed him to Monklands Hospital, but he died on Sunday with his family at his side - including his fiancee Lisa.

Gartcosh club secretary Stewart Hegarty said: “Adam was a great guy and he will be very sadly missed.

“Everybody at the club is in total shock and devastated about what happened on Saturday.

“Adam had played for us for about six years and was very much part of the team and the community.

“Our thoughts, of course, go out to his family at this tragic time.”

He added: “I’d just like to thank all the clubs, leagues and associations for all their calls, e-mails and letters of sympathy. They are very much appreciated.”

A minute’s silence will be held this Saturday (January 19) if anyone would like to pay their respects. You are asked to be at Gartcosh Social Club for 1.45pm and pitchside for 1.55pm.
